Dennis Quaid was once a proud Los Angeles resident, having risen to fame in Hollywood during the late ‘70s, but he’s now glad to be enjoying a new chapter of his life elsewhere.
The Parent Trap star revealed that after living in L.A. for decades, he relocated to Nashville in 2020 with his wife, Laura Savoie.
Although the couple made Music City their primary residence, Quaid kept his home in L.A.’s Brentwood neighborhood, which he was forced to evacuate during the deadly wildfires that ravaged the area in January 2025. (The fires, mainly located in the Pacific Palisades and Altadena, destroyed more than 18,000 structures and killed 31 people.)
That experience cemented Quaid’s dissolution with the City of Angels — although he is hopeful for its future.
“The fire happens and it kind of exposes all those things that go on that should have been taken care of,” Quaid explained on Saturday, referring to the aftermath and how complicated it’s been for families to rebuild. “So people are — people are angry, half angry and they’re half kind of feel like giving up, to tell you the truth.”
The Emmy winner — who has also owned homes in his home state of Texas and Montana over the years — claimed that his frustrations with L.A. in recent years aren’t an anomaly.
“I’m just one of thousands who have left,” Quaid said. “And I don’t know, I hope the town comes back. I really do.”
He added, “It used to be such a fantastic town. It was. It was a great community, too. And something’s happened. People need to be inspired there.”
Quaid, who is also a musician, previously addressed his move from California to Tennessee one year after settling down south.
“So many people are moving out of California because they just don’t make it easy to live there,” the Happy Face alum explained to Franklin Lifestyle magazine in June 2021. “It’s getting harder and harder to build something there.”

Quaid, who married Savoie in June 2020, noted that he’s been traveling to Nashville “over the last five years and “kindling a love affair with the city.”
In time, Quaid realized it was the right fit for him and his family. (Quaid shares son Jack, 34, with ex-wife Meg Ryan, and twins Thomas and Zoe, 18, with ex-wife Kimberly Buffington.)
“I just really like it here. I’m originally from Houston, Texas, and it just reminds me of where I grew up and the people I grew up knowing,” he shared. “In fact, I have several cousins here. My grandfather came to Texas from Tennessee in 1903 in a covered wagon. So we’re moving back now I guess.”
